Lenovo’s Ideapad Y530 may as well be an ideal gift for a loved one for the holidays because of its relatively inexpensive price. However, before you decide on it for a gift, you’d have to know if it would be appreciated or if it would be ideal for the recipient’s needs. To summarize, the lenovo Ideapad Y530 is best described as multimedia platform that is equipped with a frameless display, media controls that are quick to the touch, and a surround sound system complete with speakers and a subwoofer.

 

At first glance, you’ll see the Y530 as a bleak, dark and plain looking notebook. That is because of its all-black exterior. However, it belies an ergonomic pattern that aids you in handling it. The pattern is also stylish as well. Its aesthetics over all are clean and not cluttered, instead sticking to a certain theme or pattern. It has a bright orange color for the media buttons, but it blends well with the total black theme of the Y530.

 

What you will like about the Y530, however, is the ease of access to the insides. You can easily open the bottom portion and replace whatever parts you need to upgrade when the need comes.

 

The Y530 has some issues with its display. Though it has a frameless screen, the LCD suffers from color distortion when tilted or moved to a certain angle. While there are angles that still offer accurate display and color, there are angles that result in unsightly colors in the eyes of the user. Adding to this is an issue with glare, which can be very distracting when you’re working on something. Lastly, the display fails to give a 16:9 aspect ratio. As a result, DVD playback is not up to par and aggravates the problem with glare and viewing angles.

 

Despite its specifications, the Y530 is inferior in performance to the other models with similar specifications mainly due to its weak graphics processor. It fails sorely when doing games processing, especially with the newer games. Older games work fine here, however.

 

On the bright side, the Ideapad Y530 has a great sound system. The surround sound capabilities that come with it will surely impress the audiophiliac in each one of us. It even has an integrated Dolby Home Theater sound system in it.

 

Another plus point for the Y530 is its user manuals and related documentation. They are so in-depth and detailed that one can get the hang of using the notebook quickly.

 

To conclude, one cannot expect the Lenovo Ideapad Y530 to perform in stellar terms. However, for those who are just looking to use it for mundane and less demanding tasks, this notebook will do the job and be a good buy at its price.
